Recover detail from highlights and exposed skin.

Once you have the skin selected, right click your mouse and FEATHER the image a little bit for smoother transition in the edges, I used a feather of 2 pixels since I was working on a low-res image.
After FEATHER, click CONTROL + J or right click your mouse and choose LAYER VIA COPY so the skin remains separated from the background layer.
